The Delta Catholic Conference will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at St. John the Baptist Church in Brinkley. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following statement Tuesday, July 31, 2018, regarding the resignation of former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick. "On July 28 Pope Francis accepted the resignation, from the College of Cardinals, of Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, the 88-year-old retired archbishop of Washington, D.C., and imposed upon him suspension from the exercise of any public ministry and the obligation to remain sequestered for a life of prayer and penance until the very credible accusations made against him are examined in a regular canonical trial. ... Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese of Little Rock on Friday, July 13, 2018. Effective July 16: Msgr. Jack D. Harris, appointed pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Morrilton. He is relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Village, Holy Cross Church in Crossett, and Holy Spirit Church in Hamburg. Rev. During the past 11 months, nearly 600 people contacted the Family Assistance Program of Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). People throughout the state, though mostly in the Little Rock area, are referred to us through other charitable organizations, social service organizations, medical facilities and utility companies. Google searches for financial assistance bring up Catholic Charities, as do searches for utility assistance and rental assistance. Catholic Charities of Arkansas' Catholic Immigration Services in Little Rock (CISLR) recently began partnering with the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock. The two organizations have met twice so far in 2018. They first met at the consulate, followed by CISLR hosting them. Employees of CISLR as well as others within Catholic Charities of Arkansas have met with both the consul and deputy consul. The Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles is celebrated on June 29. Though it is a solemnity, it is not a holy day of obligation. The tradition of honoring these saints on the same day goes back to the early Church. “Both apostles share the same feast day, for these two were one; and even though they suffered on different days, they were as one.
