Bishop Anthony B. Taylor is urging all Catholics to participate in the National Catholic Call-in Day for the Protection of Dreamers on Monday, Feb. 26. The U.S. Senate on Feb. 15 failed to pass three separate pieces of legislation that would have given a path to citizenship to 1.8 million undocumented immigrants, commonly called Dreamers. Because of declining enrollment, Little Rock Theology Institute will close in June after 21 years of teaching Scripture, theology and philosophy to lay Catholics. This three-year academic program for adults in the Diocese of Little Rock has offered students an opportunity for personal enrichment, catechist certification and to earn a bachelor's degree in theology. Deepen your friendship with the Lord in sacred stillness and quiet through the Ignatian Silent Directed Retreat March 15-18 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. This Lenten faith formation program for adults will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday and end on Sunday at noon. Participants will learn about silent prayer and how to seek God and his plan for their lives in the sacred silence. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following letter, which was sent, Feb. 2, 2018, to Arkansas’ senators and representatives in Washington to ask them to pass legislation to protect DACA recipients. The bishop is also encouraging all Catholics to write or call the U.S. senators and their representative to vote in favor of a “clean” DACA bill. “I am writing to urge you to pass a clean Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) bill in February that will include a path to citizenship. Catholic Charities Immigration Services issued the following statement, Feb. 2, 2018, regarding President Donald Trump’s family immigration proposal. “We suggest U.S. citizens who have parents, children 21 years of age or older, married children and siblings who do not have legal status in the USA to file an I-130 petition on their behalf, so they can start the process to immigrate to the United States.
