The Women's Religious Discernment Retreat returns in 2022 after being canceled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be held Jan. 7-8 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Single women ages 16 to 35 who want to learn about and discern a vocation to the religious life are welcome to attend. This free event provides insight into the vocation to the religious life as it is lived through the religious of our diocese. High school youth are invited attend the 2022 Weekend for Life Jan. 15-16 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This event returns after being canceled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This overnight lock-in focuses on right-to-life issues from a youth perspective. It is held the night before the annual Mass for Life in Little Rock. It begins on Saturday night and includes a speaker, praise and worship music, prayer, skits and dance. This year's keynote speaker is Julia Holcomb, who will share her story about being the 16-year-old girlfriend of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. ... More
St. Nicholas Partners is an annual Advent appeal to raise money for the ministries of Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). Examples of what a donation can do include buying medicine for a patient of the Westside Free Medical Clinic, assisting a victim of domestic violence or providing a Bible to an inmate seeking guidance. All the ministries of CCA provide services to the most poor and vulnerable among us. The annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection will be held Dec. 4-5 in the Diocese of Little Rock. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO), the appeal benefits thousands of elderly Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding. Please give to those who have given a lifetime. Last year, two religious communities in the Diocese of Little Rock received financial support from the Retirement Fund for Religious. Applications are now being accepted for Search #149. It will be held at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock Dec. 3-5. Search is a faith formation program for high school juniors and seniors designed to help them get to know themselves better, deepen their relationship with Christ and find support in living out their faith in the world. As we gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving, we take part in a tradition that began in 1621 when Gov. Bradford of the Plymouth colony called for a day of public praise and prayer to celebrate the first harvest. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor issued the following letter to be read at all Masses, Oct. 16-17, 2021, for the opening of the diocesan phase of the synod in the Diocese of Little Rock: To the people of the Diocese of Little Rock. Last month Pope Francis announced a process of reflection leading up to a meeting of the Synod of Bishops to take place in Rome in October of 2023.
