This Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Lenten project encourages participants to perform a simple sacrifice by substituting a low-cost meatless meal for more expensive dining once a week, and put the money saved in the cardboard "rice bowl." Bishop Anthony B. Taylor addressed the following letter, March 2, 2022, regarding nuclear disarmament, to the people of the Diocese of Little Rock. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following statement, Feb. 25, 2022, on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. "Since the time of St. Augustine, the Catholic Church has used the Just War theory to help discern when and how force might be applied in the defense of the nation in time of conflict — a timely topic in these days of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The teaching of the Church regarding war and peace is spelled out very clearly in articles 2263-2267 and 2302-2317 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We enter into Lent this year after two years of pandemic and now the threat of war. Pope Francis is appealing to everyone "believers and non-believers alike" to make Ash Wednesday a "day of fasting for peace on March 2." He said his "heart aches greatly" for the situation in Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia Feb. 24. "Jesus taught us that the diabolical senselessness of violence is answered with God's weapons, with prayer and fasting. The 70th annual Diocese of Little Rock Catholic Youth Convention is scheduled for April 8-10 at Robinson Center and the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so high school youth have not gathered for this event since April 2019. This year's keynote presentation will be provided by Jackie Francois Angel and other special guests. She is a Catholic speaker, vlogger, worship leader and author. Applications are now being accepted for Búsqueda #48, which will be held at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock April 8-10. A $30 deposit is required with the application. The total cost to attend is $95, which includes lodging, meals, materials and t-shirt. Space is limited. No applications will be accepted after March 18. The weekend will include talks, videos, music, skits, prayer, small group discussion and more.
