The 2024 Senior High Youth Rally will be held Sunday, Oct. 20 at Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock. This year's featured presentation will be given by Chris Padgett, a Catholic speaker, musician, author, professor and comedian. He holds a master's degree in theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. He is working toward his doctorate in sacred theology at International Marian Research Institute in Dayton, Ohio. The 2024-25 Parish Catechist Formation Day focuses on the new translation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, which goes into effect on Ash Wednesday 2025. This daylong event is offered in five parishes across Arkansas from September to May. All catechists, youth ministers, RCIA coordinators and other faith formation leaders in parishes are invited to attend at the location of their choice in English or Spanish. The 2024 Life Chain will be held Oct. 6. It is always held on the first Sunday of October on Respect Life Sunday as part of Respect Life Month. Life Chain is a "public, prayerful, peaceful stand for life" on sidewalks in cities across the United States and Canada. Life Chains unite Christians in prayer, refrain from political activity and do not use graphic signage. The international 40 Days for Life ministry highlights prayer, fasting and a peaceful, prayer vigil outside an abortion facility to pray for an end to abortion. The fall campaign, which is being held in locations worldwide, will be Sept. 25 - Nov. 3. In Arkansas, participants will be praying outside Planned Parenthood at 1222 West Poplar St. in Rogers. The Faith Formation Office began offering a new Catechist Certification Course in February 2023 in English. On Aug. 1, it became available in Spanish as well. The 20-lesson, free online program offers video instruction presented by Arkansas clergy, religious and laity at Learn.DOLR.org.
