St. Nicholas Partners is an annual Advent appeal to raise money for the ministries of Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). Examples of what a donation can do include buying medicine for a patient of the Westside Free Medical Clinic, assisting a victim of domestic violence or providing a Bible to an inmate seeking guidance. All the ministries of CCA provide services to the most poor and vulnerable among us. High school youth are invited attend the 2022 Weekend for Life Jan. 15-16 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This event returns after being canceled in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This overnight lock-in focuses on right-to-life issues from a youth perspective. It is held the night before the annual Mass for Life in Little Rock. It begins on Saturday night and includes a speaker, praise and worship music, prayer, skits and dance. This year's keynote speaker is Julia Holcomb, who will share her story about being the 16-year-old girlfriend of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. ... More
The annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection will be held Dec. 4-5 in the Diocese of Little Rock. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO), the appeal benefits thousands of elderly Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding. Please give to those who have given a lifetime. Last year, two religious communities in the Diocese of Little Rock received financial support from the Retirement Fund for Religious. We celebrate the feast of St. Andrew, the apostle on Nov. 30. He is the first saint to be celebrated during Advent, which is the fitting since he was the first of the Twelve Apostles to be called by Jesus. Advent is a season of joy and anticipation for the coming of the Lord. St. Andrew's example of this in evident in the Scriptures. After St. John the Baptist pointed out the "Lamb of God," to two of his disciples, Andrew, one of the two, heard John and immediately followed Jesus. Applications are now being accepted for Search #149. It will be held at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock Dec. 3-5. Search is a faith formation program for high school juniors and seniors designed to help them get to know themselves better, deepen their relationship with Christ and find support in living out their faith in the world. Each fall, families and friends are invited to purchase daffodil bulbs to be planted on the graves of their loved ones in Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock. That way, by spring, the bright yellow flowers become a living memorial to all those who have been laid to rest in the historic cemetery. For a minimum donation of $10, cemetery staff will plant a group of five daffodils on the grave of your choice. (Five-bulb groups cannot be split.)
