In response to the loss of life, destruction of property and catastrophic flooding that Hurricane Harvey has unleased on south Texas and Louisiana, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor is asking parishioners in the Diocese of Little Rock to donate to a nationwide emergency collection to be taken up at all Masses this weekend, Sept. 2-3. The Category 4 hurricane made landfall Aug. 25 with heavy rains and winds of 130 miles per hour in the Rockport, Texas area, northeast of Corpus Christi. The memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated Aug. 22. It is celebrated soon after the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Aug. 15.) because it follows this event. Project Rachel ministers to anyone suffering from a past abortion. There is hope. Healing is possible. Sponsored by the diocesan Respect Life Office, Project Rachel offers support groups that meet for 11 consecutive weeks in September and February each year. Classes in the St. Andrew School of Evangelization are being offered this fall to help participants go out into the world and proclaim the Good News. Little Rock Theology Institute, a three-year academic program for adults in the Diocese of Little Rock, will not be offered to new students during the 2017-18 academic year because of low enrollment. The registration deadline was Aug. 14. Father Erik Pohlmeier, diocesan director of faith formation, said all new students who had already enrolled will receive a refund. The 2017 Bishop McDonald-Catholic Charities Golf Classic will be Sept. 25 at the Maumelle Country Club. It will offer a four-person scramble with tee times at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. shortgun start. This will be the 23rd year for this event, which will include continental breakfast, lunch and dinner along with complimentary beverages. Awards will be given following morning and afternoon plays.
