The Catholic Church in the United States wants Valentine's Day to be about more than candy and flowers. It wants to offer couples support and encouragement for building strong and lasting marriages. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor announced the following pastoral appointments for the Diocese of Little Rock on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. Effective March 7: Rev. George Sanders relieved of his responsibilities as pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. He remains pastor of St. Mary of the Springs Church in Hot Springs; Rev. Salvador Vega-Alvarenga appointed pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Glenwood. This is in addition to his current responsibilities as pastor of St. Martin Church in Nashville. The 2017 Diocese of Little Rock Confirmation Retreat will be held Sunday, Feb. 5 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. This peer-led event is open to Catholic youth who are preparing to receive the sacrament of confirmation and are unable to attend a confirmation retreat in their own parishes. This year's theme is: "He is the Way to the Spirit". The $15 per person registration fee includes lunch and all materials. It will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with Mass. The Diocese of Little Rock will host retreats for both men and women to discern religious vocations in December and January in Fletcher Hall on the campus of St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock.
