Chrism/Jubilarian Mass to be livestreamed

Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate a special Chrism/Priest Jubilarian Mass Monday, Aug. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Little Rock. It will be closed to the public to safeguard against COVID-19. Arkansas Catholic will livestream the Mass on its Facebook page for all to watch online.
The Chrism Mass, which is normally celebrated the Monday of Holy Week, and the Priest Jubilarian Mass, which is normally celebrated in June, were both postponed and combined into one Mass this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Priests serving across Arkansas normally concelebrate the Chrism Mass, during which they also renew their commitment to priestly service. Oils to be used statewide in parishes this year are presented for the bishop's blessing.
These include the oil for the sick, used in anointing the sick; the oil for catechumens, used during baptism; and the oil for the sacred chrism, which is the primary anointing oil. It is used in the sacraments of initiation and holy orders as well as special acts of dedication. The word "chrism" means "consecrated oil." To learn more, see Chrism Mass Symbols and Meaning.
The Priest Jubilarian Mass honors priests who are celebrating special anniversaries of priestly service in the Diocese of Little Rock. Jubilarians to be honored and celebrating 25 years are: Father Greg Luyet, Father Jerome Earley, OCD, and Father Amal Raju Punganoor Lourduswamy. Abbot Leonard Wangler, OSB, is celebrating 50 years and Msgr. Gaston Hebert is celebrating 60 years of priesthood. Normally, all senior (retired) diocesan priests are also recognized during this Mass.
