Each October, the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month to proclaim the immeasurable value of every person from conception to natural death. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops assists parishes, schools and other Catholic ministries by creating resources to help people "understand, value and become engaged with supporting the God-given dignity of every person — which naturally leads to protecting the gift of every person's life" through its Respect Life Program.

It kicks off every year on Respect Life Sunday, which this year is Oct. 3. This year, as part of the Year of St. Joseph, the new Respect Life materials highlight and focus on St. Joseph as a defender of life. His unhesitating adherence to God’s will as he faithfully and lovingly protected the Christ Child and the Blessed Mother bears witness to our own call as Christians. Read this month's issue of the Respect Life Office newsletter to see how this month will be observed in Arkansas. For more information, contact Catherine Phillips, director of the diocesan Respect Life Office, at (501) 664-0340, ext. 326.
