Taylor issued the following letter, March 1, 2020, to the people of the Diocese of Little Rock regarding the spread of the coronavirus in the United States: "As we all know, the coronavirus seems to be becoming a worldwide threat for which there is no vaccination or cure available. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor addressed a letter to the people of the Diocese of Little Rock, Monday, Feb. 24, about the updated version of the document: “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility,” by the U.S. bishops, "to help us better live our faith in the public square." The international Lenten campaign of 40 Days for Life begins on Ash Wednesday and continues through April 5. In Arkansas, it is being held across the street from Little Rock Family Planning Services, the abortion facility located at #4 Office Park Drive in Little Rock. The prayer vigil is held each day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 40 Days for Life ministry highlights prayer, fasting and a peaceful, prayer vigil outside an abortion facility to pray for an end to abortion. When you go to Mass today, don't forget to pick up your CRS Rice Bowl. This annual Lenten project encourages participants to perform a simple sacrifice by substituting a low-cost meatless meal for more expensive dining once a week, and put the money saved in the cardboard "rice bowl." Donations may also be made online. Every year Catholic families from 14,000 communities across the United States are using nearly 4 million rice bowls for almsgiving, which are turned in at the end of Lent. The Calix Society of Central Arkansas helps alcoholics in recovery and their families come together to find support and spiritual healing through the Catholic tradition. It is a unit (chapter) of the national organization that was founded in 1947 in Minnesota. Calix Society gatherings begin with Mass celebrated by chaplain Father Andrew Hart, and are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in Fletcher Hall Chapel, ground level. Fuerza Transformadora (Transforming Force) is sponsoring a Spanish-language retreat March 13-15 at St. Theresa Church in Little Rock to educate parents about what draws kids into drugs and gang life and what they can do to stop it from happening before their children are old enough to join. The 70th annual Diocese of Little Rock Catholic Youth Convention will be held April 3-5 at Robinson Center and the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This year's keynote presentation will be provided by Doug Tooke and Katie Prejean with special sessions on various forms of prayer. This year's theme is: "Rescued."
