Arkansas Catholic received six Catholic Press Association awards during the 2018 Catholic Media Conference hosted by the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin June 15.

  • Editor Malea Hargett got three writing awards: first place for best pro-life coverage for small weekly newspapers, honorable mention for feature writing for small weekly newspapers and shared a third-place award with associate editor Aprille Hanson for best reporting on ecumenical and interfaith issues. For her first-place coverage of the executions in April 2017, the judges said, “The stories of execution are gruesome and told with detail. Yet telling them is a moral imperative borne by the author and paper that effectively expands the Church’s pro-life teaching.”
  • Associate editor Aprille Hanson also earned second place for best reporting on young adults.
  • Production manager Emily Roberts earned first place for the best promotional house ad for the newspaper’s 2017 circulation campaign. The judges said, “This ad offers a compelling value proposition that is creatively reflected in the design. It elicits the desire to experience the product it promotes.”
  • Website director Tara Little earned third place for best diocesan website.
