The Minister to Deacons Office at the Diocese of Little Rock is hosting three deacon recommitment Masses to make it easier for deacons and their families to attend. In the past, this event was only held in Little Rock, but this year it is also being held in Rogers and Jonesboro.

Bishop Anthony B. Taylor celebrated the first Deacon Recommitment Mass at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Rogers on Saturday, April 1. He will celebrate the second at 3 p.m. in Morris Hall Chapel on the grounds of St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock on Sunday, June 4. A dinner will follow in the dining hall.

The third recommitment Mass will be celebrated by the bishop at 4 p.m. at Blessed John Newman University Parish in Jonesboro on Saturday, June 24 with reception to follow.

In addition, continuing education for the deacons is being made available at each location in English and Spanish. Deacons John Froning and Cesar Villafranca are presenting, "End of Life Issues, a Catholic Perspective." This includes advanced directives, medical power of attorney and suggestions to help deacons provide pastoral care in these situations.

All deacons currently serving in the diocese and their families are encouraged to attend. For more information, e-mail Deacon Tim Costello or call him at (501) 664-0340, ext. 320. To learn more about permanent deacons in our diocese, visit the Deacon Directory or read the History of the Diaconate in Arkansas.
