Catholic Prayers in Latin

The following includes common Catholic prayers and the Apostles' Creed in Latin. We invite you to pray with us these prayers or Catholic Prayers in English or Catholic Prayers in Spanish. Visit our list of Devotions, Meditations and Prayers on the Catholic Resources page for more prayer options. If you are in need of prayer, you are welcome to submit a prayer request to be posted on our online Prayer Book of Intentions. These prayers are offered up at the noon Mass celebrated on Wednesdays at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock.

What is Prayer?

"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy," says St. Therese of Lisieux. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines prayer as a "vital and personal relationship with the living and true God." (no. 2558) Prayer is Christian "insofar as it is communion with Christ," (no. 2565) and a "covenant relationship between God and man in Christ." (no. 2564) The catechism also explains there are four basic forms of prayer: blessing and adoration, petition, intercession and thanksgiving. The Lord's Prayer

Pater noster, qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie,
et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris,
et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.
Amen.

Apostles' Creed

Symbolum Apostolorum
Credo in Deum Patrem omnipotentem,
Creatorem caeli et terrae;
et in Iesum Christum, Filium eius unicum, Dominum nostrum,
qui conceptus est de Spiritu Sancto,
natus ex Maria Virgine,
passus sub Pontio Pilato,
crucifixus, mortuus, et sepultus.

Descendit ad inferos,
tertia die resurrexit a mortuis, ascendit ad caelos, sedet ad dexteram Dei Patris omnipotentis,
inde venturus est iudicare vivos et mortuos.

Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam,
sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum,
carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam.
Amen.

Prayer to St. Michael

Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio; contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium. Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur: tuque, Princeps militiae caelestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos, qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo, divina virtute, in infernum detrude.
Amen.

Act of Contrition

Deus meus, ex toto corde poenitet me omnium meorum peccatorum,

Amen.
