Bishop-elect Francis I. Malone, JCL, PA, will be ordained and installed as the third bishop of the Diocese of Shreveport, La., at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28 in the Shreveport Convention Center. This is a change from the previous location of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. This event was moved to a larger space to allow more people to attend.
Because the convention center will allow seating for 2,500 people, no tickets are required and the event is open to the public. A reception will be held following the ordination and installation Mass on the second floor of the convention center.
Reserved seating will be provided for visiting bishops, priests and deacons from Diocese of Little Rock and the Diocese of Shreveport, members of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, Knights of Peter Claver, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Dames and Knights of St. Gregory, religious men and women and Bishop-elect Malone’s family and friends.
Ordaining Bishop-elect Malone will be Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor and former Shreveport bishop, Bishop Michael G. Duca, now of Baton Rouge. Music will be provided by a diocesan choir. Evening vespers the night before at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27 at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans.
Bishop-elect Malone's appointment as bishop of Shreveport was announced Nov. 19, 2019, by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States, on behalf of Pope Francis.
