Parish History Presentation on the Cathedral of St. Andrew

This free, virtual event will be presented on Zoom at 6 p.m. It is open to the public, but registration is required. Register online. Once registered, attendees will receive the Zoom link needed to participate. Registration is limited. This presentation will feature Tim Nutt, archivist for the Diocese of Little Rock, who will discuss the first St. Andrew Cathedral, which was built in 1845 at Second and Center streets, two years after the diocese was established by Pope Gregory XVI. Bishop Andrew Byrne celebrated the first Mass in the new cathedral Nov. 1, 1845. The present cathedral was completed in 1881 during the tenure of Bishop Edward Fitzgerald. This is the first in the "Parish History Presentations" series, which will feature images and documents from the diocesan archives to tell the diverse story of the people and communities integral to the history of Catholicism in Arkansas.
