Religious jubilarians to be honored Sept. 17

Sister Joan Pytlik, DC, diocesan minister for religious, along with the Diocesan Council of Religious will host the annual Religious Jubilarian Day Saturday, Sept. 17 at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church in Little Rock. During the daylong event, Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will honor religious men and women who are celebrating special anniversaries in religious life at a noon Mass. All are invited to attend.

In addition to the Mass, this event will include prayer, lunch, dialogue with Bishop Taylor and “Islam in the Year of Mercy," a program presented by Imam Mahmoud al-denawy of the Islamic Center of Little Rock, Alaa Eldamaty, vice president of Islamic Center of Little Rock, and Sophia Said, program director of the Interfaith Center at St. Margaret Episcopal Church of Little Rock.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. A tour of the Islamic Center will be lead at 2:30 p.m. Religious attend for free. The cost for all others is $10 a person, which includes the presentation and lunch. Seven religious will be honored for celebrating 25 to 80 years of religious life in 2016. The jubilarians are: Sister Lisa Atkins, RSM, and Sister Lucia Ellender, OCD, 25 years; Sister Teresa Kelone, RSM, 50 years; Sister Hilary Decker, OSB, Father Eugene Luke, OSB, and Sister Eileen Schneider, OSB, 60 years; and Sister Elizabeth Rossi, OSB, 70 years.
