The St. Andrew School of Evangelization in the Diocese of Little Rock will host its first graduation ceremony for nearly 40 adults who have completed the first stage of formation at Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock on Saturday, June 23. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate Mass at 4:30 p.m., which will be followed by distribution of certificates and a reception. All are invited to attend.
The graduates come from nine Catholic parishes in Arkansas and three from Louisiana. They have been studying for seven years to complete, "The Foundations Towards a Christian Life," the first stage in the seven-stage process. Each stage includes seven classes for a total of 21 classes to complete the formation. José H. Prado Flores, international founder of the St. Andrew School of Evangelization, will distribute service certificates to graduates. For more information, e-mail Jaime Torres, diocesan associate director of faith formation, or call him at (501) 664-0340, ext. 434.
In addition, Torres, also known as "El Serio" has published his first book, "Antes de Cristo, Después de Cristo" ("Before Christ, After Christ"). On Friday, June 22, Flores and Torres will give a presentation about the book from 7 to 9 p.m. at Catholic High School with a book signing and reception to follow.
The St. Andrew School of Evangelization was founded in Mexico and has expanded to 70 countries worldwide, including the United States. It began in the Diocese of Little Rock in 2011. Inspired by St. John Paul II's call for a new evangelization, this ministry aims to: "Go into all the world and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation" (Mark 16:15) forming new evangelists for the third millennium. The goal is to have an evangelized and evangelizing Church that acts with great power, through the strength of the Gospel and the parresia (confidence) of the Holy Spirit. It is offered in Spanish and English. This program is offered through the Office of Faith Formation.
