“Surprise, Shock and Gospel: Re-Interpreting the Parables of Jesus” is the theme of the 2019 Bible Institute June 21-23 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. Father George Smiga, STD, will be the keynote speaker. This nationally known author and lecturer in Scripture and homiletics is a priest of the Diocese of Cleveland. He is on the faculty of St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Wickliffe, Ohio and writes a monthly column for Living With Christ and contributes regularly to Give Us This Day. Father Smiga will present these lectures throughout the weekend: "The Elusive Parable;" "The Parables of Mark;" "The Parables of Matthew;" "The Parables of Q;" and "The Parables of Luke." In addition to his talks, the Bible Institute also includes prayer, small group discussion and Mass. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 21 with the opening session at 7 p.m. The weekend concludes after the 11 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 23. The number of participants is limited. The $125 registration fee includes three meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, but does not include housing. Participants may reserve on-campus rooms in Fletcher Hall at the time of registration. Single occupancy is $40 per night and double occupancy is $50 per room ($25 per person) per night.
