There are a lot of opinions about what the single life means in the Catholic Church, but there is no question that God is calling single people to a deeper faith and witness in the world. Through baptism, all are called to a vocation of holiness in Christ. For many, single life becomes the best way to fulfill their vocation. Accepting a vocation to the single life means choosing to serve God as a member of the laity.
Single people serve the Church through acts of love and service in a variety of lay ministries. Living a single life invites individuals to make a difference in their community and world as Jesus did. Every call is very personal and living the single life for God has enormous potential and offers great variety. We recommend you visit with your pastor or spiritual director to get help discerning if single life is God's calling for your life.
