Calix Society is Not Catholic AA or Al-Anon

Calix Society of Central Arkansas is a unit of the national organization founded in 1947 in Minnesota for alcoholics in recovery and their families to come together for support and spiritual healing. It is a Catholic organization, guided by a chaplain and sponsored in the Diocese of Little Rock by Catholic Charities of Arkansas. "Calix," which is Latin for “chalice” is pronounced “kaylicks." It is not a substitute for Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon or any other 12-step program like Celebrate Recovery or Growing in Grace. In fact, faithful attendance to these meetings is strongly recommended.

Calix Society is not Catholic AA or Al-Anon. However, as Christians we often feel our response to the 11th step is less than satisfactory. It is in this area that Calix can offer a positive program — one that not only applies to all the steps, but also leads us to a better understanding of our “Higher Power,” who for us is Jesus Christ. “He is the key that opens all the hidden treasures of God’s wisdom and knowledge.” (Col. 2-3)
