The Archdiocese for the Military Services was created by Pope John Paul II in 1985 to provide the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces. Unlike a conventional diocese, the archdiocese has no parishes or parish registries. Base chapels are the property of the United States government and so, unlike in conventional parishes, all records of sacraments performed on U.S. military installations are maintained by the archdiocese in its Office of Sacramental Records.
