2024 Veterans Day Mass at Little Rock National Cemetery

Monday, Nov. 11, 2024

Location: National Cemetery
City: Little Rock

Father Bhaskar Malapolu, associate pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Souls Church in Little Rock, will celebrate the annual Veterans Day Mass at 9 a.m., Monday, Nov. 11 in the pavilion at the Little Rock National Cemetery at 2523 Springer Blvd, which is about one-half mile off of Roosevelt Road and I-30. All are invited to attend. Because seating is limited, participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs. The Knights of Columbus color corps will present the colors. Patriotic songs will be sung and taps will be played following the Mass.

The annual observance of Veterans Day in the United States on Nov. 11 has it roots in the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. The armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed thereafter that Nov. 11 be observed as "Armistice Day." In 1954, Congress passed legislation that renamed the federal holiday "Veterans Day," in recognition of the service of veterans of all U.S. wars.
