Why do you want to be a deacon?

I was fortunate in many ways to grow up in a very Irish-Catholic environment in southwest Montana. As for many, the roots of my faith, my family and even my community never left me. Through the years, my Catholic faith has taken a bit of a roller coaster ride. At times it tested me and at times I tested it. In this latest season of my life, I have found great comfort and joy being a small part of a very large effort to bring Christ to all of the people in my current community. The roots of my upbringing and the influence of so many people never left me.

When I take time to look back, I see how the people of my past found joy in the service of others and I thank God that I have been led to experience this same joy. Working for the Catholic Church has been a highlight of my life’s journey. To continue this journey as a deacon within the Church will help me to open new doors in the service of those in spiritual and material need. Being able to experience and accomplish this in union with my loving wife is a wonderful blessing.
