The 2018 Bishop McDonald-Catholic Charities Golf Classic will be held Monday, Oct. 8 at the Maumelle Country Club. If you love to play golf, you can play and support charitable works at the same time. This tournament is the primary fundraiser for the ministries and programs of Catholic Charities of Arkansas. St. Nicholas Partners is an annual Advent appeal to raise money for the ministries of Catholic Charities of Arkansas (CCA). Examples of what a donation can do include buying medicine for a patient of the Westside Free Medical Clinic, assisting a victim of domestic violence or providing a Bible to an inmate seeking guidance. Catholic Charities of Arkansas raised nearly $40,000 to support its programs through the Bishop McDonald-Catholic Charities Golf Classic on Sept. 25. It was held at Maumelle Country Club with 30, four-person teams that included eight priests. Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Hot Springs Village entered six of the teams. The 2017 Bishop McDonald-Catholic Charities Golf Classic will be Sept. 25 at the Maumelle Country Club. It will offer a four-person scramble with tee times at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. shortgun start. This will be the 23rd year for this event, which will include continental breakfast, lunch and dinner along with complimentary beverages. Awards will be given following morning and afternoon plays. Antje Harris, LSW, director of Catholic Adoption Services, recently got a wonderful surprise when she attended a workshop about spirituality in the workplace led by Don Streit. One of the attendees was a young woman named Hannah whom Harris had helped place for adoption 26 years ago with Kathy and Ray Allen. There were warm hugs and big smiles — and the joy of knowing that Hannah was doing so well.
