Six Catholics in Arkansas earned bachelor’s degrees in theology from St. Gregory University in Shawnee, Okla., during a Mass at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock Sept. 12. They participated in classes through Little Rock Theology Institute.
They are Lilia Hernandez, St. Edward, Little Rock (front row, from left), Amanda Adams, Our Lady of the Holy Souls, Little Rock; Joan Dobry, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Marche; Edward Bell, St. Michael, West Memphis (middle row, from left); Cat Howard, St. Edward, Texarkana; and Byron Newton, St. Vincent de Paul, Rogers (back row, middle).
Little Rock Theology Institute is a three-year academic program for adults wishing to learn more about the Catholic faith. Students may attend for personal enrichment, catechist certification or to earn a bachelor's degree in theology. The classes, which are offered monthly from September to June, are taught by diocesan staff and professors from various Catholic colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
