Veterans Day Mass to be held Nov. 11

Father Francis Damoah, SVD, will celebrate the annual Veterans Day Mass at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11 at the National Cemetery in Little Rock. Because seating is limited, participants are encouraged to bring their own chairs. All are invited to attend.
The Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus color corps will present the colors. Patriotic songs will be sung and taps will be played at the end of the ceremony. A reception will be held in the pavilion after Mass.

The annual observance of Veterans Day in the United States on Nov. 11 has it roots in the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. The armistice between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed thereafter that Nov. 11 be observed as "Armistice Day." In 1954, Congress passed legislation that renamed the federal holiday "Veterans Day," in recognition of the service of veterans of all U.S. wars.
